Ranson Smile Reward Plan

Insurance Questions

The most common misconception patients have regarding dental insurance in Morton, Illinois, is that their dental coverage functions like a medical insurance policy. This is incorrect. Medical policies have a maximum amount paid to the holder that can be as high as two million dollars over the lifetime of the policy.
In contrast, dental coverage only allows between $250 to $2500 per year. You should consider a dental policy more of a benefit plan, rather than an insurance plan. The coverage can easily be used for a single dental procedure, such as a root canal or crown.

Depending on the procedure, you are allowed full or partial coverage. The amount the company will pay on a claim is determined by a number called “usual and customary”. This varies from city to city and state to state. No one knows how the insurance companies come up with this number.

Patients will ask if Ranson Dental will accept their insurance plan.

The short answer is yes. As a courtesy to our patients, we will handle all claim submissions. We will make an educated estimate as to what your out-of-pocket expenses will be, but we cannot with 100% accuracy determine what your insurance company will pay. Ultimately, you are responsible for any outstanding balance on your account.

Patients will ask if we are in the network.

The short answer is no. We have been in practice for 26 years, and have chosen to remain out of network for one simple reason: we feel that as your dentists, Dr. Ronald Ranson and Dr. Leticia Fernandez-Ranson are the most qualified people to determine what treatment you need, and what materials are best to use in your care. If you are in network, the insurance company dictates what fees we charge, what it will cover, and what materials we may use. Often these are cheaper materials that may not fully meet your dental needs.

Furthermore, assembly line dentistry becomes the norm in practices that choose to participate. These practices must see as many patients as possible to remain viable at the reduced procedure fees determined by the insurance company. In our opinion, with this system, the quality of care suffers and the personal relationships with our patients suffer. The bottom line is that insurance companies are only interested in one thing: their profit. Their priority is to pay the least amount of money to service the maximum amount of policyholders.

We at Ranson Dental strive to deliver the best quality of care, we use state-of-the-art technology to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of our patients, provide the highest quality materials, and maintain a personal touch to make our patients feel comfortable and at ease.

We do understand that times are tough, and we have come up with a dental savings plan that will deliver the quality of care and TLC to which you are accustomed, while still being friendly to your pocketbook. This plan is ideal for patients without insurance, or for patients looking for an alternative to the traditional plan they currently have. The Ranson Smile Reward Plan has no deductible, no pre-existing conditions, and includes cosmetic work and implants, with no annual maximum. For a yearly membership fee, you get these benefits and so much more. You can read more below. If you have any questions, please call our office at 309-866-3026.
